We were delighted to have helped fund the Community Wellbeing Choir run from the Allan Park South Church. The choir emphasises getting together, having fun and feeling uplifted – no experience is required! Running now for three years, the choir is well attended with 25-30 members of the local community, including Cairn tenants, participating each week. Members range in age from 17 to well into their 80s so genres sung are varied, drawing from Scottish culture, popular music, musicals and contemporary Christian songs.
The choir welcomes anyone from the local community and helps alleviate loneliness as many members will come on their own. Singing has been found to be a natural anti-depressant, helping to lower stress levels, improve mental alertness and encourage friendships within the community.
