We funded Lambhill Stables in Glasgow to deliver outdoor activities to young people in the area. Lambhill Stables has been successfully running a programme of indoor and outdoor activities for local children and young people since 2012. Working in an area where positive opportunities are scarce and involvement in antisocial behaviour, drugs, alcohol and gang violence is high, we have been delighted with the positive response to the programme. Demand continues to outstrip provision. Through involvement with Lambhill Young Start we are diverting children and young adults into activities that are building new skills and confidence in a constructive environment that is connected to a positive part of their community. Local people live in communities with shocking health statistics and very low levels of physical exercise. Their outdoor activities not only teach new skills and increase confidence; they also provide free and accessible exercise that increases both physical and mental health.
Lucie TaylorWe are absolutely delighted to receive this funding. The funding will be used to give local young people the opportunity to participate in healthy outdoor activities such as fishing, cycling and canoeing. Our aim is to occupy young people in constructive activity, divert them from antisocial behaviour, build their confidence and get them active using the amenities right on their doorstep.
