Tenants at Munro Place in Aviemore are set to benefit from warmer, more energy-efficient homes following major investment, delivered in partnership with MP Group UK.
We completed a significant retrofit project at the 30-home development, replacing outdated heating systems with air source heat pumps and introducing a range of additional energy efficiency measures designed to reduce energy consumption and improve comfort for residents.
The project was undertaken in response to feedback from tenants, who had reported that the previous heating systems were expensive to run, inefficient and contributed to issues with damp, mould and condensation.
Working closely with us, MP Group UK not only delivered the improvements but also secured ECO4 grant funding to maximise the scope of the upgrades. This funding enabled the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, battery storage systems and iBoost hot water diverters, which use surplus solar energy to heat water. The project was delivered through close collaboration between us, with a strong focus on communication, quality and minimising disruption for tenants throughout the works.
Together, these measures have significantly enhanced the energy performance of the homes. The improvements, delivered by MP Group UK, have transformed the development, with the average Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating increasing from a D to an A.
Initial assessments indicate that residents will see significant reductions in their energy costs, with average annual savings estimated at over £750 per household.
Audrey Simpson, Chief Executive of Cairn, said:
“This project has transformed the energy efficiency of these homes and will make a real difference to our tenants by creating warmer, more comfortable places to live. We are committed to improving the energy performance of our homes and will continue to seek opportunities to invest in similar upgrades across our communities.”
Nicky Redpath, Director at MP Group UK, said:
“We are delighted to have partnered with Cairn on this transformative retrofit project, helping to deliver warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient homes for residents in Aviemore. By securing ECO4 funding, we were able to maximise the impact of the investment and introduce a comprehensive package of energy-saving technologies, including air source heat pumps, solar PV, battery storage, and smart hot water solutions. The result is a significant improvement in energy performance, lower household running costs and a more sustainable future for tenants.
“At MP Group UK, we are passionate about helping housing providers and local authority partners achieve their decarbonisation and energy efficiency ambitions. This project demonstrates the value of combining technical expertise, funding support and collaborative client & contractor project planning & delivery to create lasting benefits for both residents and communities.”
Rosamond Gemmell, a tenant at Munro Place said:
“I’m absolutely over the moon and the savings are fantastic. I can’t thank Cairn and MP Group enough.”
The retrofit forms part of our wider ambition to improve the quality, sustainability and energy performance of its homes across Scotland, helping to reduce carbon emissions while supporting tenants through rising energy costs.
