Cairn are one of Scotland’s leading housing associations, providing tenants with a selection of high quality, affordable properties across 24 different local authorities. We offer five different types of properties to meet a wide-ranging selection of needs and support requirements. These range from general needs properties, available to anyone over the age of 16, through to accommodation specifically aimed at those 50 and above which include amenity, retirement, sheltered and extra care.
What is extra care housing?
Extra care housing provides our highest level of assisted living. Cairn offers one extra care housing development, situated at Madelvic Square in Edinburgh. The aim of this development is to meet the needs of older people who are in need of extra care, but not at the level a care home would provide. Tenants in our Madelvic property live independently in their own flat with a care package provided that is tailored to the individuals wants and needs. 24 hours a day staff are on site to help residents by providing services such as medication administration, personal care and serving nutritious meals in a communal dining area. Some of the benefits of living in extra care housing include:
- Around the clock care
- Communal areas for socialising
- Flats that are adapted to suit the needs of older people
- Independence is maintained in private flats
- Flats are safe, with a secure door entry system and emergency cords
- Maintenance is taken care of
- Wheelchair accessibility
- A beautiful new roof terrace and gardens
