Cairn are one of Scotland’s leading housing associations, providing tenants with a selection of high quality, affordable properties across 24 different local authorities. We offer five different types of properties to meet a wide-ranging selection of needs and support requirements. These range from general needs properties, available to anyone over the age of 16, through to accommodation specifically aimed at those 50 and above which include amenity, retirement, sheltered and extra care.
What is amenity housing?
Our Amenity housing is self-contained accommodation designed specifically with the needs of older people in mind. Maybe you’re looking to downsize from a large family home to a property which is easier to run and maintain to suit changing needs. Or maybe your current property is too difficult to get around with stairs and un-adapted bathrooms creating barriers to living as independently as possible. Whatever your situation amenity housing could be a good option for you.
Suitable for those aged 50 or over, or younger with a medical need, amenity housing is perfect for those who would like a home that has been designed and adapted to suit their needs, but do not require the extra levels of care and support provided by retirement, sheltered and extra care housing. There will be no on-site support provided by a court coordinator, although you can still receive support visits from Cairn staff. Adaptations vary between developments but may include:
- Walk-in showers
- Grab rails
- Easily accessible electric sockets
- Room for those with mobility problems
- Anti-slip flooring
- No stairs
- Lever handled taps
- Personal alarm systems
Cairn offer five amenity properties for you to take a look at throughout Scotland in Burntisland, Cambuslang, Dumbarton, Edinburgh and Rutherglen.
How can I apply?
There are three ways to apply for our properties: directly with us, through the common housing register or through a nomination agreement with the local authority. Which route you take will depend on the local authority area you want to live in. For further information on this please see: https://www.cairnha.com/find-home/how-to-apply/.
