We all watched in horror last week as events unfolded at Grenfell Tower in London. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating fire.
Cairn Housing Association doesn’t manage any large multi-storey blocks like Grenfell Tower but, nevertheless, we wanted to reassure you that we are not complacent and we take fire safety very seriously.
Our Health & Safety Groups meet regularly to identify any risks to tenant safety and fire risk assessments and controls are frequently reviewed for all our sheltered and retirement courts. We can assure you that our building materials and fire safety equipment were designed to meet Scotland’s building regulations. Fire safety equipment is regularly inspected and maintained and we undertake stock condition surveys to ensure we have accurate information about our homes to best inform decisions about where to prioritise improvements.
Over the last week we have been in contact with local authorities, the Scottish Housing Regulator, the Scottish Government and other partners as the Scottish housing sector takes stock following the fire in London. We can expect the fire will be investigated and Cairn will be ready to act following any changes to regulations.
You can help support fire safety in your building by working with us to ensure communal areas are free of fire hazards. If we contact you about a specific fire safety issue in your building, please do take the matter seriously as it is in everyone’s interest to reduce fire risk as far as possible.
If you have any concerns about fire safety please speak to one of our team, call us on 0800 990 3405 or email enquiries@cairnha.com.
