If you’re already getting one of the old legacy benefits like tax credits, and you apply for Universal Credit because you’re income has dropped to coronavirus, your old benefits will stop as soon as you apply.
The new amount you could get on Universal Credit may be less than what you get now, and you won’t be able to go back onto your old benefits. You may not even be eligible for Universal Credit, despite getting benefits now.
Use one of the benefits calculators on gov.uk to see what you could get before you make a claim. You can also get in touch with us to receive specialist advice from our tenancy sustainment team if you’d like more information or support.
