Cairn Housing Group is a national provider of housing services operating across 24 local authority areas throughout Scotland. We are a strong business with a clear social purpose, 4,500 homes under management, have an annual turnover of £24m and are a registered social landlord with the Scottish Housing Regulator. We are looking for Board Members to join our commercial subsidiary Board, Pentland Community Enterprises. The Group has private placement of £50 million to fund our growth, development (PCE) and investment plans so it is an exciting time to join the subsidiary Board.
Our Vision is Great Homes, Great Services, Great People.
Our Values are Customer First, Excellence, Accountability, One Team and Respect.
The Board of Pentland Community Enterprises (PCE) has a small experienced Board that has overall responsibility for governance and strategic direction. PCE’s purpose is to support and deliver the Group’s overall business plan and strategic objectives. PCE has responsibility for any commercial or non-charitable activities for the Group, including mid-market rent properties, and we plan to transfer the Group’s garages/sites and factoring services to the subsidiary. In time we will seek to develop new commercial ventures and initiatives to generate profit to support the Group’s wider social objectives. PCE operates across different areas of Scotland, inc. Caithness, Inverness and North Ayrshire, and last year 2022/23 had a turnover of £196,924 with plans to increase the turnover, profit and range of initiatives over time.
We are seeking to recruit new Board Directors for PCE who have a real desire and interest in helping our ambitious group achieve its aims and objectives and contribute towards business growth, service excellence and good governance. Experience in commercial, land, development, business sectors would be beneficial. As a voluntary position it will not be paid but travel and other expenses for attendance at meetings are reimbursed in line with our Group Entitlements, Payment and Benefits Policy.
You will need to commit to attending up to four meetings per year, plus one annual Strategy Day and one Development Day with the Group Boards, (either virtual or attendance in Edinburgh, Bellshill, Inverness or Caithness). You will receive a Laptop (or allowance), email account and IT support to facilitate attendance at virtual meetings. We encourage, support and expect PCE Board members to commit to personal development through induction, mentoring, training, seminars and conferences or study visits and involvement in the Strategy and Development Days and working groups across the Cairn Group.
We are committed to improving equality and diversity on our Board and welcome applications from all sections of the community, particularly under-represented groups and women with relevant skills and experience. We would be particularly keen to hear from you if you have a commercial, property, land, development or legal qualification, experience and skills.
If you wish to discuss this matter informally or for further details and an Application Pack please contact: Carolyn Owens, Governance Services Manager, on 0800 990 3405, email carolyn.owens@cairnha.com or write to us at Cairn Housing Association, Bellevue House, 22 Hopetoun Street, Edinburgh, EH7 4GH.
Closing date for applications is Wednesday 21 June 2023. It is anticipated that interviews will be held w/c 26 June 2023.
