Cairn Housing Association has partnered with High Life Highland Archive Service to preserve a significant collection of historic housing records and drawings linked to communities across the Scottish Highlands.
The archive includes original drawings and documents relating to the development of several highland communities and housing estates, including Hilton, Kinmylies, Pennyland and Mount Pleasant. Many of the records date back to properties transferred from the former Scottish Special Housing Association.
The collection, which also includes historic microfiche records, will now be safeguarded by the High Life Highland Archive Centre under a guardianship agreement, ensuring the material is protected and accessible for future generations.
Audrey Simpson, Chief Executive of Cairn Housing Association, said:
“These records tell an important story about the development of communities across The Highlands and the role affordable housing has played in shaping people’s lives over many decades.
“We are delighted to work with the Highland Archive Centre to ensure these historic documents are preserved, protected and made available for future generations to learn from and appreciate.
“By safeguarding these materials, we are helping to preserve an important part of local history and the legacy of social housing in The Highlands.”
The preserved records will now become part of the Highland archive collection, supporting future research into housing, communities and social history across the region. The records can be accessed by emailing archives@highlifehighland.com.
